Recently, the entire island was reduced to rubble and its mutant population decimated by Sentinels ordered to do so by Cassandra Nova. Magneto and Xavier have since joined forces to rebuild the island nation. A few survivors and newly arriving mutants that wish to help with the rebuilding process remain on the island.

A small island off of the northern coast of Scotland, Muir Island's significance stems from the fact that it was the home of Earth's largest and most comprehensive mutant research complex, located to the north of Scotland, founded by Dr. Moira MacTaggert.
