Character description/personality: Eric Northman is the sheriff of Area 5, a vampire district in Louisiana. He's over a thousand years old and is a powerful member of the vampire community. He hides his emotions well, he is calm and stern and seems to have a lot of tolerance but when he is angered he can be extremely vicious and dangerous. He enjoys playing with people and can be very sarcastic. He's arrogant and spoilt from his leadership and power over other vampires, obviously use to people listening to his orders.
He is loyal and does not break promises. There is a soft side to him which was seen when he cried for his Maker not to meet the sun, he breaks down from his normally collected self and begs to stay with Godric but Godric orders him to leave and Eric has to obey. He also has an interest in the mortal telepathic, Sookie Stackhouse, he wants her for himself.
Persuasion: Neutral. Some would view him as evil but some of his deeds are good, normally when it benefits him. He finds children "delicious".
Type of Creature: Vampire
Powers: Flying, mind control, persuasion, mind reading, super strength, claiming humans so others can't drink from them.
Weaknesses: Silver, sunlight, viral infections, can be staked.
Other facts: He has a reflection, holy objects/water have no effect, fangs are retractable. Vampires explode into bloody mess when staked. Old Swedish is his first language.
History:
The oldest vampire in Louisiana, Eric was made a vampire before the 10th century by the vampire Godric. Eric was a swedish viking soldier but not much else is known of his past. Godric, who is older that Jesus, killed Eric's fellow soldiers but kept Eric alive, deciding to make him a vampire.
Eric owns a bar in Shreveport, LA called Fangtasia. He has an interest for Sookie which eventually turns into something more romantic, mainly after Eric tricks Sookie into drinking from him when she sucks silver shrapnel from his body. He can now tell what her emotions and location are when ever he wishes to.
In season 2, Eric kidnapped Lafayette, one of Sookie's friends, for dealing vampire blood. He eventually trades him for Sookie's help in tracking down his maker Godric, the sheriff of area 9 in Dallas, who has supposedly been kidnapped by the Fellowship of the Sun, a religious group against vampires.
Sookie ends up being captured by the fellowship also this causes Eric to come to her rescue. Bill, her boyfriend, is being kept away due to his orders.
Eric, who is still bound to Godric, is extremely loyal and cares deeply for his maker. Godric, who is now over 2,000 years old has grown weary of life and decides to commit suicide by exposing himself to sunlight at dawn. When he first hears of Godric's decision to end his life, Eric shows anger, then breaks down weeping, begging his maker not to leave. This is the first time we've seen a change in Godric's hard personality. He is insistent that he should stay by Godric's side and die with him but when Eric does not leave, Godric invokes his authority as Eric's Maker to directly order him to leave.
When Sam comes to Eric for help with the children of Arlene, the vampires show an interest in the little humans. Eric states they are delicious, while Pam, a vampire made by Eric and his loyal assistant, calls them 'teacup humans'. Not much is known about the past between Pam and Eric but they seem to be very close, they often speak to each other in Swedish. Pam is shown cutting and highlighting Eric's hair in season one.
In the first episode of season 3, which was shown last weekend, Eric is put under pressure by elder vampires to find out who the vampire blood dealers are in his area. Unknown to the elders is that the Queen however is going behind their back and is dealing blood through Eric, which could get him in serious trouble. She insists that he keeps dealing and that he must sell off all the blood that is left. He orders Pam to go to Lafayette who then threatens the mortal Lafayette to carry on dealing. If any of them get caught the penalty would be death or an extreme punishment by the vampire court.
