~Leap Castle, Ireland~ Leap Castle is an Irish castle in County Offaly, about 4 miles north of the town of Roscrea. It was built in 1250 by the O'Bannon family and was originally called "Leim ui Bhanain," or "Leap of the O'Bannons." The O'Bannons were the "secondary chieftains" of the territory, and were subject to the ruling O'Carroll clan. Many people were imprisoned and executed in the castle, and it is supposedly haunted by several specters, the most terrifying of these being is a small hunched creature whose apparition is said to be accompanied by a rotting stench and the smell of sulfur. ~Shrieking Shack~ The Shrieking Shack, on the outskirts of Hogsmeade, is believed to be the most haunted building in Great Britain. Connected to Hogwarts by a secret tunnel, the Shrieking Shack was used by Remus Lupin, a werewolf, to hide during the full moon to avoid harming fellow students or others. The villagers heard the noise and mistook it for violent spirits. This rumour, encouraged by Hogwarts' Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, led to the Shrieking Shack being officially regarded as the most haunted building in Britain. ~Waverly Hills Sanatorium~ The Waverly Hills Sanatorium, located in southwestern Louisville-Jefferson County, Kentucky, opened in 1910 as a two-story hospital. In the early 1900s, it was ravaged by an outbreak of the "White Plague". The plague prompted the construction of a new hospital. The hospital was named the Waverly Hills Sanatorium. Although it was considered the best site for treating the disease, the procedures were primitive and grisly. The doctors experimented, removing organs and trying to find a cure. Tuberculosis ravaged the mind, and caused some patients to go insane. More than 6,000 patients died during the time that the Sanatorium was open. The mansion is renowned for its size and lack of a master building plan. It is a major international player in a number of markets including pharmaceuticals, medical hardware, defense, and computers along with more clandestine operations utilizing genetic engineering and bio weapons.
