Tender young things too.
Anyway, heya guys, what's cracking?
Expect this to be a long one, so sit back, grab a drink and a smoke and read away.
Sorry I haven't been posting much, or keeping a thorough eye on the forum lately, or really since the hack. We know who the hacker is, and it is being dealt with on a number of levels. Seriously, there's like 7 people on her ass, and thats just from this ring of hacks. So no worries about that situation. I am replacing everything I can, and adding new stuff as I go. MD will not die. The Daze is eternal.
So, aside from that, a recent PM was sent out from Sara regarding post length.
Let me elaborate some on that. I did ask her to send it, compose it, etc. And I personally have no problem with what she said, I am an in agreement with it entirely.
Now, there are occasions when one or two line posts, (shorter posts than average). Say you are ending the thread, or blacking out to remember nothing, dying, etc. Then it is totally acceptable as things are winding down.
But on the normal average posts, from EVERYONE, in the actual RP should ideally be one paragraph in the very least.
We are telling stories.
How often do you read chapters in a novel with only 3 sentences? Its rare. So why do we want 40 posts or more that all say, " "Hey, I'm Bob, nice to meet you." I drank my coffee."
WOW. That is uninspiring. Add too it, draw it out. Describe the scenery, how do you feel, what happened in the last post that your character would notice, how did it make you feel? Elaborate.
Try and remember that we're all coming from different places and cultures, in real life, not just our characters. So misunderstandings are bound to happen. Try not to take things personally and get all pissy, or defensive and lash out. It does no good, and takes time away from the RP to settle something that was really nothing to begin with.
I will ALWAYS be around for you guys to discuss this kind of stuff with. But I shouldn't have to. You should all be adult enough to talk about it between each other, or just drop it all together. This does not mean you have to leave the forum or drop your chars. That actually hurts the RP and breaks my lil heart. Sometimes I am spending so much time adding neat things to the forum, and dealing with misunderstandings between members that I don't get to RP alot with you guys. Violet's char is designed to RP with EVERY other kind of char. MD's whole scheme is kinda set that way.
We are really lax here. My rules are quite simple. BE FUCKING NICE! Respect each other, and the forum. If I see disrespect between my members it hurts me and my forum. Frankly, it usually pisses me off, and you all get to see Violet in ultra bitch mode. Then I feel all crappy, and don't want to post, let alone look at my forum.
Even in my CBox this will not be tolerated.
I am totally aware that not everyone is going to be friends, but it need not be fucking broadcast that so and so hates Joe Smith, or Sally can't stand Carl. That's between those people. Keep it there. Don't drag others into it, don't broadcast it over my forum or Cbox. Talk it out in instant messenger, PMs, or email. Or don't talk to each other at all.
IF your chars by right should interact, then PLAY YOUR CHARS. You don't have to like the person behind it, or the way they portray their chosen char. It is there choice, just as how you portray yours is your choice alone. If you don't like it, don't agree, or don't find it fitting to that char in your mind, then tough nugs. Thats just how the dice rolls sometimes. You can play it off in the RP, by saying, "Damn, George, you've changed. I don't think I can accept you like this. I'm sorry."
Ohh...the drama. Fun to read, fun for RP, sucks for life. So there's some solutions.
Now, on to God Modding.
Typically god modding is considered moving another person or char without their consent. This spans many levels, as it is different for every person, plot, and even forum. As I've said before, we are not necessarily strict here. I want everyone to have fun.
So, let's say that Faith & Buffy are sparring. As Faith, I might say something like:
"I hit B with enough force to knock over an 18 wheeler. But she took it, damn girl can hang Slayer style that's for sure. But when I reversed on her ass, putting my heel in her face and splitting her lip, I knew I was in for it. She'd be fired up and her next swing designed to take me out."
That can be considered god modding. Though nothing was said that would be out of character, per say, I did make Buffy take the hit, and said I split her lip.
Personally, I don't mind this type of so-called God Modding. You didn't move the char out of character so to speak, by making them do something they'd never do. For example, I didn't say, "I hit B with enough force to knock over an 18 wheeler, then continued to pound on her while she laid there like a bitch and took it." LoL. Blatant god modding.
Don't overpower another char, it's rude. Don't put words in their mouth. Don't move their char for them. Of course, there are exceptions to this to.
If Faith and Buffy were in a mine shaft and the floor fell out from under B, and in Faith's post I had her grab B and move her just in time. That shouldn't be considered god modding. It would be in char for her to do that.
Always, feel free to talk to the other chars you are RPing with. You can develop the plots, talk about what you want to happen, and ask about their personal god modding ideas. Ask them if its ok for your char to assume this or the other, say this or that. There is never anything wrong with open lines of communication. In fact it really helps the story-lines.
Ok, since the hack, the order of staff has changed only slightly. I am still owner/creator. The be all end all as far as this forum is concerned. I have recruited 3 Magistrates. They are directly under my status. Amelia, Sara, and Mana. Osiris is our site security. He makes sure what happened will never happen again and keeps an eye out for rotten people that try to do rotten shit on MD. Then, all of you that were staff, should still be staff. Continue being staff. On char approvals, I don't care who approves what. If there is some issue with it, let me know, and I will give the final yes or no on it. If I am not around, ask my Magistrates. My Mags were picked to do what they do because they have a very clear idea of how I want and expect MD to run, as well as have experience with their own forums, and have been on the ball in other workings (like chasing the hacker).
Osiris is integral! You all have no idea how much effort he's put into keeping this site secure, so we can do what we do here.
Other staffers, we have no lists now, to keep track of. So don't worry about it. Just do what you were doing before. The more we get MD restored, the more you'll all have to do eventually, like maintaining the lists we once had, etc.
For now, have fun, hang out, revel in the daze.
If you have questions, ask me! It's cool.
If you have problems, well, join the club.
I love you all.
Yours sin,
