First Name: Cole
Last Name: McGrath
Middle Name:
Age: mid 20s
Height/Weight: Taller than average and of middling weight
Eyes: Dark Blue
Hair: Bald
Character description: Cole was, and still is, a fairly good-looking man, but his corruption shows through. All along his body are black, tar-like marks, resulting from a close contact with the telepathic leader of the Reapers, Sacha. This allows Sacha to speak into Cole's mind. Cole's lightning is a dark red color, and this color is therefore present on him most of them time. His skin has a pale, grayish hue, and most of his color has lost its bright color, instead taking on a similar grey hue.
Persuasion: Evil
Type of Creature: Superhuman
Powers: Cole's powers are completely electrical based. Cole can fire lightning bolts at his enemies, sometimes aiming them quite precisely. He can create grenades of electricity, or launch missiles at his enemies, both of which will split into seven, causing massive amounts of destruction. He can send out shockwaves of electricity to harm a large number of foes at once, or choose to shield himself with a polarity wall. When faced with either injured people or enemies, Cole can drain them of their life, restrain them, or heal them of their injuries. Cole can readily sense electrical sources and, if a person has died recently, he can psychically track their past actions or locate those who were around the person when they expires. Being evil, Cole can release a deadly wave of arc lightning that will branch out and seek his enemies, causing them great pain. Anything encompassed within the arc will be electrified.
He can execute a deadly move where he jumps from a height and crashes to the ground, creating a blast radius of pure electrical energy. While in the air, Cole can exude an electrical aura that will allow him to glide. In addition to this, Cole has the ability to grind on electrified wires, riding them as one would a skateboard. In doing this, Cole can also replenish his energy. Cole's last, and most devastating power, is to create a lightning storm that will allow itself to be directed by him.
However, Cole's powers have serious limitations. Cole's stored electricity drains quickly, and he must replenish it from a readily available source. This action will also heal him of injuries. Cole cannot use electrical devices, drive cars, or use firearms because his latent bioelectricity will either cause them to short out or, in the case of guns, force the ammunition to explode. Cole cannot be submerged in water or else the electricity will leech out of his body at an enormous rate, killing him in a short time.
In addition to his superhuman powers, Cole is an urban explorer, and therefore can navigate through sewers easily and climb buildings with little difficulty. The only superhuman augmentation is that Cole has a great amount of endurance and structural integrity, being able to survive high drops easily.
History:
*WARNING: HERE BE SPOILERS TO A RECENTLY RELEASED GAME. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!*
Cole was a bike messenger in Empire City when it happened. He was told to deliver a package, but then, the mysterious man who had told Cole to deliver the package instead instructed him to open it. Inside was the device that would change Cole's life and the lives of his fellow citizens of Empire City forever: the Ray Sphere.
The Ray Sphere's activation cause a cataclysmic explosion that decimates 6 city blocks around Cole in the Historical District. Cole is relatively unharmed, but spends several days in the hospital run by his girlfriend, Trish. Cole heals quicker than most, and comes to find that the explosion has given him powers beyond the scale of human imagination: Cole can manipulate electricity.
Meanwhile, a plague has been introduced by the demented ex-junkie Reaper gang, which not only causes people to hallucinate, but also forced them under the control of the Reapers' leader, Sacha. The United States government has therefore instituted a quarantine around the boroughs of Empire City, trapping all the city's denizens inside.
Anarchy reigns in most of the city, which is devoid of electrical power. The Voice of Survival, a rogue DJ, points out that Cole McGrath was at the explosion's epicenter, forcing Cole and fellow bike messenger Zeke to try to escape the quarantine. Cole escapes into the hands of Moya, a mysterious woman who asks Cole's help in finding both her husband, John (an undercover NSA agent who has infiltrated the First Sons, the group that created the Ray Sphere) and locate the device and bring it to her.
Cole agrees and is reunited with Zeke, and attempts to apologize to Trish, whose sister was killed in the explosion. However, because of Cole's evil actions in helping to spread the Reaper plague, Trish wants nothing to do with him, yet still asks his help.
Cole is confronted several times by the First Sons's leader Kessler, ouster Alden Tate, who was supposed to inherit the command of the organization. Kessler exhibits powers similar to Cole and eggs him onto his evil path. As it happens, Moya was using Cole and lying about John being her husband, once Cole locates him.
With the help of Sacha and the Reapers in the Warren, Cole is able to defeat the telekinetic Alden, leader of the Dust Men, a gang of formerly homeless people. Alden then tracks the Ray Sphere to the Historical District, where he is intercepted by Kessler.
Kessler tortures Cole psychologically by kidnapping Trish and stringing her to the top of the building, opposite a group of six doctors who are similarly strung up. Kessler informs Cole that he can either save Trish, his love, or save the doctors and summarily save thousands of lives. Cole is selfish and saves Trish, killing the doctors, but Kessler double crosses Cole and Trish is injured as well. In her dying moments, Trish curses Cole's name.
Cole locates the Ray Sphere in the Historical District, with John at hand, and hence comes the most important moment for Cole: use the device again, or destroy it? Cole decides to use it for his own power, but as it is activated John knocks it out of Cole's hands. This interruption of the sequence causes the Ray Sphere to malfunction, creating a vortex which incinerates John and only gives Cole a fraction of the powers he would have received.
Cole and Kessler have a final showdown at the site of the original explosion, and after defeating Kessler, Cole is shown the truth. Kessler IS Cole, from an alternate timeline where Kessler received the Ray Sphere later than Cole did, but still gained powers without the summary catastrophe. Kessler married Trish and had a family, but an evil being appeared, known only as the Beast. Kessler took his family into hiding, but the Beast found them, killing Kessler's entire family, including Trish.
Kessler decided then to use his most recent power and go into the past to make sure that Cole would be ready to fight the Beast. He took control of the First Sons and accelerated the development of the Ray Sphere, and it was Kessler who gave Cole his assignment to deliver it to that specific location and open it.
After Kessler's death, nothing stands between Cole and the dominion of Empire City, which comes to fear its infamous ruler.
