Finally after five days of hyperspace travel, the “Isolated System Between Spiral Arms” had been reached. The position of this system sparked the interest of the entire Irin race. Never before had they ever encountered a solar system perched in this manner, seemingly perfect for universal observation. A single Irin, one out of billions of practically identical nameless people, was bold enough to openly hypothesize that this discovered system could perhaps be Irin’s origin. That Irin was designated “Prospect” simply based on the notion that he would be the prospective Irin to provide enough solid evidence to either prove or disprove his theory through dedicated scientific research and investigation. Commissioned before the entire hivestar, Prospect was issued a hiveship and sent on his journey toward the undesignated galaxy that contained the “Isolated System.”
Prospect was curious to find only one inhabited planet as he conducted a scan of the sun and its satellites. As was protocol followed by all commissioned Irin, he did not directly approach the planet for touchdown. Instead, in high orbit Prospect deployed several satellite probes small enough to remain invisible to detection. He immediately observed the planet had hundreds of artificial satellite probes about its orbit specific for numerous operations. He observed that he found none surrounding the planet’s natural satellite moon. Around this moon was set his orbit. The orbit Prospect maintained would completely hide his hiveship on the dark side, in the shadow of the moon. Reconnaissance was Prospect’s first order of business. He wouldn’t even think about descending upon the planet until he understood the basics: timetables, atmospheric components, gravitational tendencies, available natural resources, vitalities necessary to the indigenous life.
Irin were, on the grandest scale, observers. They had all the patience in the universe, enough to sit and wait, watch, & observe. However they could also understand much information within a moment’s time of collected data. The probes he stationed all around the planet were able to pick up all the communicated wavelength frequencies from the planet: radio frequencies, televised communication, shared information over the “www”, etc. Within a few moments of observing the communicated wavelengths he’d learned the inhabitants called their home planet “Earth.” They called themselves “humans.” These humans required a number of consistencies for survival, including a combination of elements and chemicals that are all used by their natural anatomy in different formats. The formula of air must be breathed. That of water must also be consumed. Nutrition necessary for health includes a vast array of possible combinations. Psychological stimulation and physical activity appeared vital to the living of one’s life, et cetera. There was just so much information Prospect was going to have to learn.
A human scientist would be excited at the chance to learn about a completely new world.
Prospect was not human. This was his function.
