The first thing you need to do is start thinking of what you would like to be I would recommend grabbing a piece of paper for this, because when the ideals may start coming fast and you wouldn't want to loose them. Also remember the more details that you add the better the character. Please remember if you get stuck at any point or would like suggestions feel free to ask any adm/mod. Most of us love this stuff and would be more than glad to help you out.
Now start asking yourself questions.

Are you male or female?
How old are you?
What color is your hair, eyes?
How tall are you?
How much do you weigh?

If you were created how? (Example if you are a vampire who is your sire? Did you want to be made a vampire or were you forced? The more details the better here)

How did you get your power?
Were you born with your power or did you learn it?
What weapons do you carry?
How well do you use your weapons?
How did you learn to use the weapons you carry?
Who were your parents? ( Not necessary but nice to know.)
Was your childhood happy?( Also not necessary but nice to know.)
Did you have brothers and sisters? ( Not necessary.)
Were they younger or older than you?( Not necessary.)
Ok if you are still with me at this point, you should have a basic character. Fill in the details. Remember the more details the better the character.
Now a few suggestions. Do a little research. After all you must have the Internet if you are here. Take advantage of all that knowledge at your fingertips.Why research go back to your answers. If you are from someplace you have never been in real life, look it up.If you are basing your character on some point in history or written fiction, make sure you know your facts. It is embarrassing if you are roll playing and a other character calls you on something.

There are also some sample characters, please do not steal them. Create your own
1.Name – first and surname – nicknames?
2.Age – date of birth – birth sign
3.Where do they live? Where have they lived? Any significant moves?
4.Education – successes, failures, resentments, mistakes, hopes
5.Family position (siblings?) Age of parent(s). When born.
6.Occupation and attitude toward it.
7.Occupation of parents.
8.Marital status and attitude toward it. Children?
9.Physical details – height, weight, skin color hair color eye color shoe size, self image (i.e. worries, insecurities, pride)

Name: Sarah Coltrane

Where does she live? Chicago, her home is semi detached with a meticulously maintained front and back garden, she moved here from Louisiana nine years ago.
Education: School and college educated, above average grades though nothing spectacular.
Family position: Last of her family left alive, she was an only child and her parents were killed in Chicago. Her father was the district attorney, having held that post in Chicago for two years. The deaths were…suspicious.
Occupation: Police officer
Marital status: Unmarried, she was nearly married three years ago, arresting your partner for armed burglary kind of sours the relationship, however.
Physical details: She has black hair that she wears short to the base of her neck, cold blue eyes stare out from an expressionless tanned face. She is five foot four and a hefty one hundred and fifty pounds. There is a quiet confidence about her, she is used to getting what she wants and gives the impression that one would not like to know what happens if she doesn’t. She carries in her pocket a deck of tarot cards, this deck being the Destiny deck, she uses sleight of hand to draw cards that might put someone she is talking to ill Judgment. Death, Justice, Judgment, The Hanged Man and sometimes the Three of Swords, a card depicting three swords through a heart. She also has a deck she uses to lay spreads for herself in her bedroom, a unicorn deck, emotion usually lies behind the cards’ depictions.
Money and attitude toward it: She has enough that she could lead a fairly comfortable life, she is never extravagant with spending it.
Voice: A Southern twang, jus’ the way mumma spoke, shuga.
Style of dress: She wears dark, formal clothing, suit, shirt and slacks.
Nightwear: Well tha’ aint no question to be askin’ no lady!
Type of bed: Double bed, duvet, pillow, the standard fare for the master bedroom.
Food/drink: Salads, pasta, some meat but nothing too greasy. She drinks mocha when she gets up, usually water throughout the rest of the day, she needs a clear mind.
Typical day: It rather depends on the line of business. She is usually a night owl, she wakes up mid afternoon, breakfast and coffee at the local coffee shop. She deals with the dregs of society and usually has to see a contact or two, and she is marvelous with them, fear ismarvelousous motivator. After that…well. She rarely meets with the top brass, they hate her methods and she hates that they ccriticizeise what she has to do to stay alive when they sit safe behind their desks and paperwork, as far as she sees, the most risk they put themselves at is one of paper cut while she is dealing with monsters.
Best friend: She has acquaintances, it would be hard for her to call anyone a friend.
Worst fear: Being helpless.
Worst vice: Wrath, Hell hath no fury like this woman scorned. If she is angered, she will find a way to have her vengeance. It is not often that anyone in the underworld would seek to get on her bad side, her reputation in such matters precedes her, intimidation and manipulation through the cards is one thing, some of the other stuff she has done…
Best virtue: Fortitude/Justice: She will do whatever it takes to get the job done, however that makes other people see her. There are few people if anyone close to her to threaten and if she herself is threatened, she will blow smoke in the face of the person delivering the threats as she coldly laughs in scorn.
What does she want? She has never found the people responsible for killing her parents and suspects that the force itself isn’t helping, or at least not helping justice. Short term, she wants to get some of the scum off of the streets.

Where does she live? Permanent home in Long Island, NY. traveling spends more titravelinging than at home.
Education: high school made it throuhigh schoolool with average results, though she scored high in Music. She was the youngest in the class, only having just been born in time to make it to the one she was in, though naturally outgoing, this has caused her to be slow to take to new company at times.
Family position: Youngest of five, her parents were twenty-three when they had her.
Occupation: For the last half a year, she has been the lead singer of a manufactured band, Muse in Chains. She enjoys the stage-work, but the sponsors she would rather not know any more than she does about.
Marital status: Single, not likely to have children (unless some process is found to allow two females to have a child together)
Physical details: She cuts a trim figure at five foot two and barely weighs a hundred and ten pounds. Her skin is fairly pale, offset by jet black hair that she often dyes the left fringe of, the color of the dye changes more or less every month, changing between vivid reds, purples, pinks, blues, place photos side by side and you could see a rainbow among them. She has warm brown eyes that one could almost feel they could fall into. She knows she is near skinny but she has a quick metabolism.
Money and attitude toward it: She’s lived in a working class home most of her life, so she has a realistic view of money. Also from the fact that her fortunes have changed this quickly, she knows they could change again just as quickly.
Voice: She has a rough New York lilt when she speaks normally, while singing, her main forte is the death grunt, a rough tone from the back of her throat.
Style of dress: She usually wears fairly trendy halters and jeans, she isn’t flashy about it, it’s just what she feels comfortable in. On the stage, her clothes are tighter and she wears a spiked choker and spiked wristbands, she also wears dark makeup on the stage which she doesn’t often when away from the public eye.
Nightwear: Old t-shirt and jeans. At least if she intends to sleep…
Type of bed: Usually a hotel bed, she spends a lot of time on the road, probably too much but then her contract doesn’t allow her much choice.
Food/drink: Pasta with different types of homemade sauces is her usual preference, as for drink, she’d most often drink still bottled water. She is straight edge, meaning she doesn’t drink, smoke nor take any kind of drugs. The greasy food she lived with at home has put her off meat of any sort.
Typical day: No such thing, she could be on the road, preparing for a concert, doing publicity. On the stage, she is known for outrageous antics as she looks to get a reaction.
Best friend: Marisol Mondragon, the band’s lead guitar, even in six months, she has become the closest thing Mary considers to family.
Worst fear: Losing all control of herself to the sponsors of the band, Steim Zettel, she is feeling very claustrophobic about the situation.
Worst vice: Wrath, if someone has done something to her or those she cares about, she will hold a grudge.
Best virtue: Fortitude, life has thrown a lot her way, she has overcome it.
Secrets: She was a hacker in her school years, she went under the handle ‘Magdalene’. Her vengeful nature did come out as she did this, one person in her school started posting very homophobic remarks in his blog not long after someone she cared about had killed herself. She hacked into the site, trashed it beyond repair and left a photoshop picture of him in a compromising situation with a donkey.
What does she want? Eventually to get from under the thumb of those ‘looking out for her’, her parents and siblings treated her like a hired hand from a young age, the sponsors who lured her into this life almost own her and her bandmates through the contracts and will do for at least a good few years, their only concern being how much money they make them. She wants to live for herself.
