-Sixteen years.-
-The short time of his reanimation was sixteen years ago and,to him,it just seems like mere moments ago,as time flows completely differently in the Land of the Dead, and while his soul was there, reunited with his beloved Shelly,he basked in the sheer, indescribable, joy of not only being done, avenging his and Shellys deaths at the hands of T Bird and his crew, but being there and at peace with the one woman who meant absolutely everything to him in any and all world or realms or planes of existance...Shelly Webster Draven, yes they'd been married after death, and he was sure nothing would ever separate them again.-
-Nice dream huh?-
-Sixteen years on Earth had been a short sixteen hours in the Land of the Dead and,as he and shelly were lounging under a tree the sky turned from the pleasant golden hue it was day or night here and grew black as pitch in a matter of seconds and, within this blackness, they both saw a nightmare city, especially by the standards they were already used to in this afterlife, where hundreds died nightly and crime and violence was as omnipresent as air and dark souls, with dark hearts, terrorized the average citizen in this dark and foreboding city. This is just the normal, run of the mill, criminals that ran the streets at night...there were also people so evil,or insane, they might as well be demons and a lone crusader to stem the endless tide of violence and evil that ran the streets of this Gotham City under the cover of darkness.-
-The Batman.-
-The powers that be,yes of Buffyverse fame, that'd brought Eric back to avenge his and shellys deaths showed him this wicked and dangerous place and showed him and shelly,in quick flashes, several hundred of the downtrodden citizens of Gotham and the hundreds of thousands of wrongs committed upon them daily then asked, not Eric but Shelly,if she would stay here while millions suffered.
Eric,of course, stood in the instant she'd taken to consider this question and clenched his fists as he glared up into the black nothingness of the sky, placing himself between shelly and it,and snarled to it that he would go in her stead, citing the fact that he's been through this scenario once before while she hasn't,and demanding they send him not her. This,of course,is what the powers had intended all along but knew he'd never consent to going without them applying the right leverage, shelly,to force him to volunteer for this.-
-So,as he turned and kissed shelly goodbye, the powers moved his physical remains, which had been reduced to rags and bones by this point, from Detroit to Gotham then he felt his soul being torn away from shelly, his eyes never leaving hers until she was out of sight, and reinserted it into his body and regenerated into flesh and blood once more and, once again,he had to force his way out of a grave and into the cold night air of Gotham City where he gasps his first breath in well over a decade and screams out one word, one name,in the unlit cemetary within the city limits of Gotham.-
"SHELLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!"
