First Name: Shayla
Last Name: Anderson
Middle Name: n/a
Age: 24
Height/Weight: 5'2/112lbs
Eyes: Blueish-gray
Hair: Blonde
Character description/personality: Shayla is a child of two worlds, as a result her human and demon half are always fighting for control. Engaged in a never-ending struggle deep within her subconscious. One half is the caring human side with compassion who can share in joy, sorrow, fall into anger, hatred and even things like greed and jealousy. The other half is the ice cold emotionless demon side largely seen during battles that doesn't show even the least bit of any emotions, as if she was suddenly possessed by something that doesn't feel remorse.
Persuasion: Neutral
Type of Creature: Half demon
Powers: Shayla can create ice from her body and manipulate the ice in an surrounding area at the cost of draining her own body, this power however is increased depending on how cold the area is around her. This also means she can freeze objects. In her demon form her ice powers are increased “1x†for the small amount of time she's in that form.
Weaknesses: * The act of creating and manipulating ice takes a toll on her body. Depending on how much ice she creates/manipulates depends on how much it drains her body. There's also a limit to how much ice she can create/manipulate in a single day and when she reaches that limit she won't be able to use her ice abilities until the next day.
* Weather condition also plays an important role. The hotter the area around her is the weaker her ice powers will be. If she's in a place where it's usually very hot then her ice abilities will be weaker and it will drain her faster.
* Fire is her opposing element and it has both the ability to weaker her when it's in her presence and kill her.
* Shayla is still mortal, and unlike her father, does not possess superior strength, speed, agility, reflexes or endurance. Her only ability is the ice while the rest of her body is as fragile as any mortal her size would be. This also means she can't regenerate, if she gets a wound Shayla has to have it tended to like anybody else.
* Shayla can only shield the “emotion†of fear, but she still feels it when faced in a dangerous situation and those who smell/sense it will be able to feel the fear on her.
* Shayla emotions can be used against her to make her do things she wouldn't normally do, and she will at times allow emotions to dictate her actions and act on impulse.
* Shayla can only maintain her demon form for a few minutes (3 posts) before she returns to human form and end up drained due to the transformation.
* In her demon form she loses her humanity until she reverts back to human form. Meaning she can lose control and attack innocent people.
History: Barrow, Alaska: every year during the winter the sun will not come up again for a grand total of 30 days. In 1980 one vampire group in particular began taking advantage of this annual winter event and led a feast on the citizens in Barrow, Alaska. His name was Ra and he had only been a vampire for 30 years upon his first visit. Shayla's mother would witness a killing by Ra during his first visit and before the vampire could kill her she managed to escape into her home where she discovered the vampire couldn't follow. She didn't question it, she only hid underneath her bed in hopes the man would go away. Her mother repeated this process every year by staying in her house during the annual 30 days of night. All until the year 1985 when she met a man who who was new to her home and they fell in love. One night of passion would lead to her being impregnated by the man. During the 30 days of night that year she would watch her lover fight off the vampires with use of the element ice and learned the truth, he was a demon that could take human form.
Unsure of what to do she retreated into her home while her lover fought off Ra and his group of vampires. While he was unable to kill Ra himself he was successful in repelling the group by using his power to control ice and won back his lover's trust, sticking by her side to help take care of their child and to act as “guardian†of Barrow, Alaska. In 1986 Shayla was born.
Shayla started showing signs of her own abilities at an early age when she began accidentally freezing objects she touched. Nobody outside her family knew of the fact she was part demon, this also caused her relatives to be distant and afraid of her. At the age of eight her parents told her the truth and Shayla's father began teaching her how to properly use her abilities. With the help of her father and the love of her mother she was able to accept what she was, even after seeing how hideous her demon side looked when her father taught her how to revert to her demon side at will in order to increase her ice abilities. They discovered, that due to the mix of blood Shayla didn't have the same enhanced strength, speed and endurance her father had. Just the ice. Shayla also held all the usual weaknesses of a mortal.
Shayla father began to teach her how to fight at age 14 by using a staff.
In all this time Ra has not come back to Alaska himself since 1985, but he still sent his best warriors to take out Shayla's father until he finally came back in 2004 equipped with a new weapon. One that produced fire. With the use of a flamethrower, tactics and his regular vampire abilities Ra was successful in defeating Shayla's father and killing him before the annual 30 days of night was up.
Shayla and her mother was both devastated at the lost and while Shayla wanted to give up her mother insisted she kept on fighting. On that day Shayla took her father's place as “guardian†of Barrow, Alaska.
Shayla spent the next year preparing herself for the upcoming 30 days of night in 2005. It was all she could think about, that inevitable confrontation with the vampires. Shayla was afraid, it would be the first time she ever fought a real life vampire before. What if she messed up? What if she couldn't handle the stress? What if she got herself killed? Shayla had to keep her mind off it just to keep from driving herself insane. The nightmares where she either get killed by the vampires or fail and watch everybody else die didn't help matters. Shayla greatest fear was failure, of letting everybody else down. Death was of course a close second.
That time was getting closer and closer, her mind replaying different strategies in her mind while the sun said goodbye to Barrow, Alaska and would not return for the next 30 days.
“I'll stop them.†That what she said in her mind as she knew they were getting closer. “I'll stop them.†Shayla kept telling herself that as she held up her staff and walking down the streets covered in snow. “I'll stop them.â€
They came hard and fast – she barely had enough time to react to the first vampire charging her – beating him back with the staff and knocking him down before staking him. The others to come would use the darkness to their advantage. One vampire would jump in the air and Shayla would turn shooting out a beam of ice that froze them in midair, their frozen body falling into the snow as another vampire came to her right and she raised up a wall made of ice to her right, only big enough for the vampire to smash right into it and taking advantage of the moment to stake the stunned vampire.
Shayla's eyes looked over to see two other vampires slowly approach the girl. “What is this? A vampire slayer?†“That's no slayer.†“Yes. I smell it too. The scent matches the last one. We'll kill this one too, yes?†“Of course. Unlike the last one, this one's mortal!†They both rushed her, Shayla knew she couldn't out maneuver them with their superior speed, but she could slow them down. Ice spikes came out of the ground suddenly, forcing one vampire to a stop momentarily and then Shayla would strike with the staff. Shayla was able to hit him with a hard enough uppercut swing using the staff, sending him flying into the air and landing through the ice spike being impaled on it. Now that his body was in touch with her own ice creation she could freeze him all the way and chop off his ice head to kill him.
Shayla found the other vampire angry as it lunged at her and made her fall to the ground. Pinning her by the arms he was ready to bite into her until she used her powers to cover him in ice and kicked him off. As Shayla slowly got up to her feet she could see somebody else approaching from the darkness. This man had long curly blond hair, a blond beard to match it and green eyes until his face morphed and she had yellow eyes staring her down. It was the face of the vampire who killed her father. The face of Ra. “Good evening.†“What's so good about it?†Shayla only responses to his words would be thought. In battle she never talked, as her father before her, only kept an ice cold shell on the outside to hide her fear, albeit a futile effort as the vampire could still smell it. Shayla wouldn't give him the pleasure of also seeing it on her face too “You are your father's little girl. Same basic ice powers. Similar fighting stance, but your fighting style is a complete cut and paste. I suggest incorporating your own moves into what he taught you to evolve into your own style over time.â€
“Go to hell.†Ra only stood there looking her over and doing nothing else, asides from talking. “You are not one for the chit chat I see. Also like your father. A strong man, a worthy adversary he was. I took much joy and pride while killing him. I sense fear in you, anger. Are you here for revenge?†“I'm here to protect my family and friends!†“You still do not speak. Are you afraid your voice will drip with fear in each word? Is that it?†Shayla kept her eyes on him while tightening the grip on her staff. Not wanting to make any sudden movements, but her desire to kill this man was growing stronger, becoming a strange sort of hunger. “I see. Then let us commence to the action scene.†Ra pulled the flamethrower from around his back and released a single wave of fire from the weapon, Shayla reacting as quickly as she could, rolling out of the way of the flames before a second wave came her way. This time she would perform a backflip, going directly over the fire but she would see more coming at her the moment she landed – quickly Shayla created a shield of ice to fight off the flames, and luckily by the time it could melt that particular wave of flames was over.
Knowing she couldn't dodge forever Shayla decided to take a great risk. She charged full speed ahead at the vampire wielding the flamethrower, and her chance rewarded her as the vampire put away the flamethrower in favor of hand-to-hand combat. Shayla covered her hands in hard ice for a moment, punching the vampire hard in the face with the ice breaking on impact to add a much needed punch to her hit. Ra would be knocked back, still standing however, and laugh the hit off as he hit her with a powerful enough punch to break her nose. He followed it up with a headbutt that knocked Shayla to the ground. Feeling blood drip from her nose while it was broken she crawled through the snow trying to get away.
“Did you think you would be able to defeat me? In close-range combat of all things? You don't have the same strength as your father and even he knew better than to fight me at CLOSE range! I been a vampire for over 50 years now. I have seen many battles, and fought in a fair few myself. You fight me with a style I've both faced and defeated! You deserve to die. I will allow you the gift of seeing your father, as you both burn in hell together.†Ra picked her up and tore off the right shoulder part of her shirt in order to see more of her beautiful neck. Shayla felt the cold tongue of Ra lick up and down her neck before he felt his teeth sink in. Shayla thought she would die right here like in her nightmares but she pulled a small cross out from her pocket and pressed it up against the vampire's cheek in an act of desperation; burning a cross mark on his right cheek after he left a mark of his own on her neck. Ra ran back and Shayla was on her knees, still holding the cross out to keep Ra away. Ra was feeling the burnt cross scar on his cheek before laughing. “I see we have both left our marks on each other. I will not forget mine until I kill you.â€
Ra would make his leave and for the remaining days she would continue to fight off his men. As usual Ra would save the best for the last day in Alaska. He had managed to trick an invite into Shayla's home and when she came home from patrol one night she saw him with his mother in hand “Don't move a muscle.†Shayla noticed the way he had her held. One hand grasping her throat and the other grasped tightly in her hair. She recognized the death hold from when her father showed it to her during training. The slightest jerk left or right and her mom's neck would snap. “Don't try to play hero, girl. I could break her neck before you could do anything to save her.†“Please! Please don't kill her. Take me instead! Finish the work you started with me!â€â€œHuman emotions. Another weakness. You are tainted by the blood of man.†“Please!†“I will make you embrace your demon side like never before. You will crave vengeance.â€
All Shayla could do was watch her mother die right in front of her as Ra snapped her neck. Shayla ran towards her fallen mother while Ra made his escape and held her close while crying her eyes out.
On the outside Shayla appeared to be robbed of emotions, even in the face of her mother's funeral. But inside her human half was crying out in pain and sorrow. Unable to take it anymore Shayla decided to track down the vampire that had taken so much from her and her home; traveling from place to place for 5 years (still managing to make it home before the sun went down for a month) to find Ra and kill him. Shayla keeps reminding herself this isn't just a quest for vengeance. It's a quest for justice and to stop a danger before he could harm anybody else. That what she keeps telling herself anyway. With five years gone since the death of her mother her search continues in the United States of America.
