With all the powers that Leyna has, she is still very much human. She is human with an advantage but still human. A simple gun shot or a twist of the blade will render her dead.
Her anger and recklessness is her biggest weakness. She says what she thinks and she likes to pretend she is fearless. If death is a strong possibility, she will take on the challenge. She is on a constant mission to prove herself and that puts her in unsavory situations.
History:
Leyna Stidolph, daughter of Vivian -She Who Beheads the Mountain- Stidolph, Ahroun of the Fenrir. Named after her grandmother Leyna -Reaps the Wind- Stidolph, Ragabash of the Fenrir. Her father Carl Stidolph insisted that their second born would be named after his grandmother, thinking it would bring them luck.
The Stidolph family was proud with heritage they could track all the way to the time when they first founded the Sept of the Howling Mountain in the great Swiss Alps. Leyna's ancestors lead some of the Fenrir from the Homeland to these cold mountains, it was here that they stayed. Even Wyrm seemed to dwell thick in the cascading snows and bitter winds.
Leyna grew up inside the Caern, which was shared with Red Talons. Most Fenrir are not so opened minded, but Leyna grew up in a special Caern, allowing her to see things from an abstract view. She loved her home and more importantly she loved her brother Ansgar, which was two years her senior. As children they played and ran wild throughout the bawn, getting into trouble and causing mischief. Their mother was a strict and hotheaded woman, but in the end she was fair. Their father was gentle and calm, quite the opposite from their ill tempered mother, but there was never any issues.
As Leyna got older, she started spending more and more time with her father Carl. He was the village Blacksmith and his skill with forging a blade was nearly legendary amongst the Fenrir. At least in Leyna's mind, but even Vivian would bow to Carl's skill with an anvil and hammer. Ansgar never showed any interest in his father's work, but Leyna did.
Her father and her bonded over the hot smelting pots, huddled together as he instructed her in the art. Ansgar spent more and more time with his mother, watching her from a distance. Though Leyna and Ansgar never drifted emotionally to far from one another.
By the time Ansgar was 13 years old it was time for him to go through his trails. In the Caern, once a child became a certain age, it was tradition for them to take only a knife and the clothes on their back and travel up the mountain and stay there for 3 days and 3 nights. To force the change and to see if they could survive. Even mostly mild mannered Fenrir, strength was still encouraged and strictly enforced. The weak did not live. Many died on that mountain and even though Leyna stood there with her mother and father with pride, watching Ansgar travel up that mountain, there was still fear in her heart that he might not survive.
The nights and days went by and the howling cold winds made Leyna shiver, not only with a chill but with fear for her brother. However she was not allowed to show her fear, her mother would not approve of it and she would not have been able to stand the disappointed look in her father's eyes. So she quietly waited.
On the 3rd night...Ansgar did not return. They stood out there all night long in the blistering cold waiting for him. As the sun was approaching the peeks of the mountains, Ansgar still had not shown. Leyna feared the worst for her dear brother and she could see a hint of worry in her mother's expression. Though when all were ready to walk back into their lodges, Ansgar came trekking down the mountain's path....in crinos.
People cheered and Leyna looked up to her mother, seeing the pride in her mother's eyes as the first tear Leyna had ever seen trickled down the hardened woman's face. Leyna watched as Vivian rushed to her son and greeted him as a loving mother would. Leyn's father also left to greet their son, leaving Leyna behind to watch from a safe distance. Leyna couldn't help feel a pang of jealousy. She didn't make a scene but it bothered her slightly, she just hoped when it was her turn, her mother would be just as proud.
Leyna stopped seeing Ansgar as much after that, he was busy learning from the other Theurges and undergoing his rite of passage. It was almost as though Ansgar had completely forgotten about his sister. Vivian also had seemed to forget that Leyna was there, busy helping Ansgar in his training...Neither of them would come home sometimes for days at a time. Leyna kept herself busy in her father's forge, working was the only thing that seemed to keep her mind off of it.
When Leyna was 13 it was finally her turn to go up the mountain. She was excited, she was convinced she would go through her change too and it would be like old times for her and Ansgar. Vivian would be so proud of her daughter. To have two true borns.
Leyna was granted her knife and as she sun rose above the peeks of the mountain, she began her journey up the mountain's pass. The howling cold winds bit at her, causing her ears, fingers and feet to become numb. The snow tired out her legs as she climbed, her vision blurred from the blizzard like snowfall. She knew this task would be difficult, but she underestimated how difficult it would be.
She forced herself on the first day a couple miles into the mountain. There would be a large trek she would have to make, but she assumed traveling by daylight would be far better. Once the light was gone and she could no longer move on, Leyna tried looking for shelter. This became a difficult task as she could not find one, she couldn't see and her body was too numb to think. She eventually found a large rock to huddle behind, there she wrapped herself in her coat. It was only enough to keep the wind from eating through her too much.
That night sleep barely came. She drifted in and out but the roaring wind and the cold prevented her from sleeping soundly. When the wind finally settled down the sun rose above the peeks, lighting Leyna's way. Cold, hungry and tried she pushed herself further. She wondered how long it would take before she went through her first change. It would come at any moment. She was sure of it. She just had to keep moving.
Another few miles up the mountain she trekked, coming to a small cave. Leyna assumed this would be the best place for her to stay. She crawled inside of it , noticing it was too small to build a fire of any sorts. However it would at least protect her from the wind, providing shelter from the extreme elements of the mountain. She compacted the entrance with snow, only allowing a small opening for air.
When the sun set once again, a storm came. The blizzard had been the worst Leyna had ever heard. She tried resting through it, but it soon became too much. The wind blew the snow from her cave entrance and Leyna couldn't even get close to it. Her body was far to numb and tired. She did not know if she would survive. Her stomach wretched in pain from hunger. Her eyes were dry from the cold and lack of sleep. The change did not come, not as she wanted it. She prayed and prayed for it to come swiftly, but the more she prayed the less her prayers were heard and the more doubt started to set in her mind. She wasn't going to shift.
The night grew on and on, it seemed like an eternity to Leyna. She laid there in the den, huddled up as best as she could to keep warm as tears trickled down her cheek. She could hear the wind mocking her, beckoning her to her death. All she had to do was let go, it would have been easy and her suffering would be over. She could not feel her legs or hands anymore. It hurt just to even shift into another position slightly. She knew what was happening, her body was seizing from the cold, hypothermia was setting in and there was nothing she could do.
She slammed her fist on the ground and growled out, "I am Fenrir, I will not give in!" She disobeyed the howls of the wind. Over and over again she cried out her refusal to die. Over and over again she roared back at the wind until her voice was hoarse. Her lips cracked and bled from the dry cold air, her throat sore from her shouts and a lack of water.
Somehow Leyna had survived... the winds died down once more and the sun was there to greet her. It was the third day. Leyna had survived...but through the night, Leyna realized she did not change. She was not one of Luna's Blessed and it crushed her. However she had to get back down the mountain, she would not die up here.
She rubbed her legs and arms until she had feeling in them once more, before forcing herself to stand and start her journey back to the bottom of the mountain. Leyna like her brother was late coming down the mountain, she walked and walked down the perilous paths. Hoping that just over that next turn she could see her village. Her steps were slow and painful but she managed.
When she came down the mountain, the village was there to greet her, just as they were there to greet her brother. The howls of accomplishment echoed throughout the caern. There at the bottom of the pass was her mother, father and brother. Ansgar and Carl both had relieved and proud smiles on their faces when they saw the frostbitten and shivering Leyna, but Vivian...Vivian was not smiles. Leyna was looking at her mother's expression, waiting to see her mother greet her with pride, but ti was not as Leyna pictured it in her own mind. Instead her mother snorted out her disappointment, Vivian's eyes grew that much colder to Leyna and all the young kinfolk could do was feel her heart sink into the pit of her stomach. Vivian left without even so much as a hello.
Time went on, Ansgar became part of the Caern and was being initiated into a pack. While Leyna and her father worked in the Forge. Vivian spoke little to Leyna, other then a few motherly demands, Leyna was mostly ignored. She was growing up though and a strong need to rebel was hard for her to ignore. Most of the children Leyna grew up with were ready for their rite of passage, against both her parents requests, Leyna would sneak off with them and normally was the reason the young cubs would get into trouble.
Whether it was to track down a bane or even a leech or two hiding in the wilderness, Leyna would find any excuse to run off with the cubs and cliaths. Vivian was outraged by Leyna's actions, to the point where Vivian decided the only way Leyna would learn her place in this world was to shackle her to the forge. Ansgar stood by his mother's decision, casting displeased glances at his rebellious sister. Even her father would show his displeasure by leaving her alone in the forge.
She had plenty of water, but sometimes they would forget to bring food to her. Leyna grew bitter and angry, all she wanted was to prove to them she was just as good. She was just as useful. It was a known fact that Leyna was a far better fighter than her brother, but that made no difference to Vivian.. While other Kinfolk were allowed to fight next to the Garou, Leyna was forced to stay in the forge. Leyna did not understand why. She did not understand what she had done to wrong her mother, but her mother's hatred for her was apparent in Leyna's eyes.
At the age of sixteen, Vivian decided the only way Leyna was going to learn not to run off every chance she got was to have her mated, with Ansgar gone searching for a spirit, her father too ashamed to speak to her, Leyna was at the mercy of her mother. Leyna was not about to go through with it, she was young and wasn't ready for such a responsibility. When the time was right, one night while her mother and father slept, Leyna crept from her home and left the only home she had known.
From the alps she disappeared into France, trying to search out her brother. She had an idea of where he went off too, but it was pinpointing his location that was a bit difficult. After a few months of searching she located Ansgar. Indeed he was shocked to see her away from home and of course he accosted her when she told him the story of why she was there. However she batted her eyes and pleaded with her brother, begging him to allow her to stay with him and his pack. He agreed under the condition that he would write home to their mother and explain that Leyna was with him. Even though Leyna really didn't like condition, she agreed to it and surprisingly enough their mother did not come dragging Leyna back home. Leyna was allowed to stay with Ansgar.
Leyna was introduced to the Sept of Eternal Waters, it was far different then back home. It took her time to adjust with the other kinfolk, most did not understand her hot temper or her rebellious nature. While Ansgar seemed to be calm and in control, Leyna was fiery and fierce. Leyna was not one to be pushed over, she was more than willing to help out around the caern, but she did not take kindly to Garou who felt they could step all over her. Many of times Ansgar had to intervene when a garou lost their temper with Leyna's mouth.
Ansgar pleaded with her, but she refused to listen. If they were not strong enough to put her in her place, then they weren't deserving. Ansgar did everything he could to control his sister in short of beating her senseless.
One kinfolk was attracted to Leyna's spit fire nature, a Silverfang named Sashenka. In time Leyna grew to have a stable friendship with this other kinfolk...Ansgar was pleased with this new relationship. Sashenka seemed to keep Leyna from going overboard with her behavior, unknowing that Leyna also had an effect on the Silverfang.
The both of them would vent their troubles and problems with the garou of the Caern. Leyna's attitude rubbed off on the Silverfang... and the both of them decided it was time to cause an uprising. The kinfolk there had been worked nearly to death while the Garou sat around lazily and had little to nothing to do with them. It later came to pass that someone mentioned, Leyna was no longer allowed to watch Fight Club.
An uprising they wanted and an uprising they got... Leyna and Sashenka had worked the Kinfolk up into a frenzy. However it was squashed before it could be entirely effective. Leyna was severely punished, to the point where Ansgar could not even help her. Sashenka was sent back to her home sept of the Crescent Moon in Russia. Leyna was cut off from the world around her once again, they took away her ability to speak and was confined to her quarters.
Once a day she would receive food and water, but that was all the interaction she was allowed to have. It came to Leyna's surprise later on, that she had caused a huge stir amongst the Garou. Many agreed with her. Kinfolk should not be treated as property or breeding stock, just because the Garou were Garou, didn't mean they deserved more. The 8th law of the litany was brought up and thrown around all because of Leyna and Sashenka's actions.
The Elders and the higher officials of the Caern though did not agree. Kinfolk had their place and in their own way were respected.
Months went by and Leyna had not spoken a word. After awhile she stopped trying to talk, she just sat there in that room and watched the walls close in on her. The Elders hoped to instill fear in her, which they did, but they did not break her like they wanted too. Ansgar after some pleading and compromising was able to release Leyna from her silent prison...and the very first thing she did when she was free was to punch her brother, knocking him off his feet... in front of ever Garou watching.
She stood her ground, clenching her fists. She was not going to show fear to them. Her first words struck a cord with everyone standing there watching her:
"Fuck you." She glared at all those around her. "Fuck you and the horse you all road in on." She had been waiting months to say that, her brother scrambled to his feet, grabbing his sister's arm trying to force her from speaking and she snapped him. "You cannot force a Fenrir!" She ripped her arm from him. "I am Fenrir, I will not bow. Not you, not to them, not to anyone. If the mountain could not make me bow to it's will, what makes you think you can?" She turned her head to look at all the Garou standing. "You are all weak! Crying over minor wounds because a few kinfolk managed to ruffle your pelts." She spat out to them. "All we wanted was a thank you. How hard is that? Really? Is it so difficult to open your mouths and form two words? Thank you. That's it. You couldn't even give it. Selfish, greedy and dishonorable mutts!" She accosted them as a gasp of disbelief echoed through the crowd. Some immediately shifted, more than willing to silence her and the moment they did she pointed them out.
"Where is the honor in that? Shifting to take on a kin? What do you think I have? Do you think Gaia gave me the ability to regenerate my wounds? Are you that daft?! If you want to kill me, then so be it." She reached to her brother and grabbed his sword from his waist, drawing it out and throwing it to the ground. "But if you are going to insult me, then kill me with my own steel."
She did not die that day, she was instead beaten until she was rendered unconscious. Though Leyna did bring the change she wanted, to a point. The Kinfolk at least got a thank you. Ansgar was so furious with her, but the same time he couldn't help but be proud of her. She had done something that he could have never done, she silenced the Garou for a moment. To him, watching some of their faces was priceless.
Ansgar and his pack did what they could, gathering up a passport, some money and equipment for her. Leyna was destined to make her mark on the world, but Ansgar knew it was not here. Here Leyna would only be in danger. The Elders agreed she was allowed to go off on her own, not many wanted to deal with her anyways.
The night Ansgar gave her the things she needed, he said something that she would never forget:
"Luna made a mistake, she chose the wrong sibling.." Before Leyna could interrupt him he placed a finger on her lips to keep her silent. "My trial on the mountain... if not for my first change the spirits to guide me, I would have never survived. You never cower, you never stop fighting... if you were born true, you would have become one of the great legends. I want you to know this, I want you to know how proud I am of you."
Leyna had not cried since her time on the mountain and on that night, when Ansgar said those words to her, she shed her tears. That was all she wanted to hear. What she had longed for. Even though it did not come from Vivian, at least her brother was proud.
With that she came to the states, now she is just looking for somewhere to go. Find somewhere where she belongs.
